Wird nach der Installation von KB905474 das Fenster angezeigt, dass es sich bei der eingesetzten Windows-Version um keine "originale" handelt, aber Downloads von optionalen Updates über die Windows/Microsoft Update-Seite oder das MS-DownloadCenter möglich sind, hilft u.U. das folgende Vorgehen:

Zunächst auf die WGA-Validierungsseite von MS
gehen und damit erneut "Windows überprüfen" lassen. Wenn die erfolgreich abgeschlossen ist, Windows neu starten.

Führt dies nicht zum Erfolg, anschließend unter "Ausführen" im Startmenü wgatray.exe /b eingeben und mit [Enter] bzw. einem Klick auf OK ausführen lassen.

Hilft auch dies noch nicht, die Datei "data.dat" im Ordner
\Dokumente und Einstellungen\All Users\Anwendungsdaten\Microsoft\Windows Genuine Advantage\data löschen. Anschließend Windows neu starten lassen und danach erneut die WGA-Validierungsseite von MS (mit dem Internet Explorer) aufsuchen und "Windows überprüfen" lassen. Windows anschließend abermals neu starten.

Falls auch das nichts bringt, empfiehlt sich der Download des "MGA Diagnostic Tools". Dieses Tool speichern, alle IE-Fenster schließen und dann aufurfen. In diesem Tool auf "Copy to Clipboard" klicken. Danach die englischsprachigen WGA-Foren von MS ansteueren und via Passport/Live ID anmelden. Dann im Forum einen neuen Beitrag erstellen, das Problem kurz und sachlich richtig schildern und in diesem über die Tastenkombination [Strg]+[V] den Inhalt des MGA-Tools einfügen. Es sollte sich ein MS-Mitarbeiter melden, der die weiteren Schritte empfiehlt.

Anmerkungen:
Dieses Update beinhaltet eine EULA-(Endnutzerlizenzbestimmung)-Änderung, welche vor der Installation abgenickt werden muss. Bitte diese EULA genau durchlesen! Siehe auch EULA-Text ganz am Ende dieses Artikels.

Dieses Update kontaktiert laut Pressemitteilung vom 27.06.2006 nun nicht mehr nach jeder Benutzeranmeldung kurzzeitig Server von Microsoft (sondern "nur noch" alle 14 Tage) und soll eine überarbeitete, klarere EULA enthalten.

Diese Version von KB905474 kommt mit einer veränderten Installationsroutine daher, welche den Anwender mehr Informationen vor der eigentlichen Installation bieten soll. So finden sich vor der Installation des optionalen Updates Links mit weiterführenden Informationen und es wird noch wähernd der Installation angezeigt, ob die automatische Prüfung ein "originales" Windows festgestellt hat, ohne dass das System neu gestartet werden muss. Auch ist das Fenster angepasst worden, dass eine nicht originale Windows-Version signalisiert. Dies ist auch die erste Version von KB905474, die über das DownloadCenter downloadbar ist.

In der Systemsteuerung findet sich unter "Software | Updates anzeigen" ein Hinweis, dass dieses Update "entfernt" wurde. Eine Deinstallation ist also nicht möglich, lediglich ein Systemwiederherstellungspunkt wird mit dieser Version angelegt. Aus diesem Grund biete ich für den Bedarfsfall einen selbst erstellten Uninstaller (KB905474-Uninstaller.exe - ca. 37 KB groß) ohne Gewähr zum Download an. Nach der hierüber erfolgten Deinstallation, die einen Windows-Neustart erfordert, wird KB905474 wieder auf der Windows/Microsoft Update-Seite und über AutoUpdate als Update zum Download angeboten bzw. installiert.

Kaum zu glauben, aber wahr: MS hat mittlerweile tatsächlich einen (englischsprachigen) Artikel in der MSKB veröffentlicht, der die "Deinstallation" der "Pilotversionen" von KB905474 beschreibt: KB921914

Bitte keine Diskussionen über die Sinnhaftigkeit der WGA-Überprüfung führen. Meine Meinung dazu findet sich ansatzweise unter http://patch-info.de/news/.
